Nick Bostrom is a Swedish philosopher and polymath known for his work on the philosophical implications of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and existential risk. He is a professor at the University of Oxford, where he is the founding director of the Future of Humanity Institute, a multidisciplinary research institute dedicated to the study of existential risks and the long-term future of humanity. Bostrom is best known for his work on the "simulation hypothesis," the idea that we may be living in a computer simulation created by advanced civilizations. He has also written extensively on the potential risks and benefits of advanced AI, including the possibility of an "intelligence explosion" leading to the creation of superintelligent AI that could pose an existential threat to humanity. His 2014 book, "Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies," is considered a seminal work in the field of AI safety. Bostrom received his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Stockholm in 1991 and has held research and teaching positions at a number of universities, including Yale University and the University of Oxford.
