Eric Schmidt is an American computer scientist and business executive who is best known for his roles as the former Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Google. Schmidt served as Google's CEO from 2001 to 2011, during which time he helped oversee the company's dramatic growth and expansion into new areas such as mobile devices, online advertising, and cloud computing. He is credited with professionalizing Google's management structure and guiding the company through a period of rapid technological and business innovation. After stepping down as CEO, Schmidt remained with Google as Executive Chairman until 2015, when he transitioned to the role of Technical Advisor. He has also served on the board of directors for a number of prominent technology companies, including Apple, Novell, and Siebel Systems.
